The Phonoautomat

The Phonoautomat is an activation of Jake Nicoll's "Scamper" -- a fully solar powered mobile recording studio built into a 1970s camper trailer. In order to bring this impressive piece of engineering to the public, Idlefield turned the Scamper into a 15 minute recording booth which recorded single take performances directly to tape and then mixed directly to cassette tape. The project was included in Sappyfest (Sackville, NB) and Art in the Open (Charlottetown, PEI) in 2022.
The results were incredibly open and loose collaborations amongst audiences, performers, and community members.
